Description of the work
Description of the work
The work is a type of assemblage that aims to investigate the field of human perception in relation to the artistic artifact. Momoli's work takes into account various issues already raised, for example, by Lucio Fontana's Spatialism, such as the definitive transcendence of traditional media to engage with a perceptual experience that directly engages the viewer's space. The use and manipulation of rubber allows for research on this front through the distinctive features of Vinicio Momoli's artistic language. This work is part of a series of assemblages created by Vinicio Momoli between 2009 and 2013 that explore the perceptual possibilities offered by the use of rubber. Rubber is already a material with its own volume and therefore something that interacts with the viewer's space. Indeed, it is an industrial material, therefore something that comes directly from the viewer's own reality. Momoli works to increase this contact between the work and the viewer, and so, although he designs essentially flat compositions, he deforms the rubber, bends it, inflates it, and superimposes layers to release it from the narrow space of the artwork. Then, drawing on Fontana, he uses cuts, lacerations, and tears to introduce the randomness of reality into the process of artistic creation. Aesthetically, Momoli's assemblages are practically works of design, built on delicate balances of lines, layers, and colors.
Vinicio Momoli was born in Padua in 1942 and lives between Castelfranco Veneto and Paris. His artistic development encompassed various experiences outside Italy, which brought him into contact with innovative circles, especially in France and the United States. Since the 1960s, he has developed his own artistic language, focused on investigating meaning and perception. In the 1980s, his research also expanded to environmental installations and multi-material sculptures. He has participated in over 200 exhibitions both in Italy and abroad.
