Do you have any questions?
What is archiving a work?
Archiving is the official process through which a work is examined, recognized, and registered by the Archive, Foundation, or Association legally responsible for protecting the artist's legacy.
The result is an official archive document that certifies the work as authentic and fully legitimate for circulation on the market.
Why is it mandatory to archive a work?
For all artists who have an official Archive or Foundation, archiving is not a choice, but an essential obligation.
The relevant authorities are authorized to expressly request the removal from the market of works without archive records and exercise thorough control to prevent the circulation of uncertified works.
Archiving protects owners from disputes, formal requests, and legal proceedings.
How does the archiving process work?
After receiving the images of the work and the available documentation, we send the request to the competent Archive.
We liaise with the organization to confirm costs, documents, and materials to be sent. We then handle all the bureaucratic, documentary, logistical, and fiscal aspects of archiving, including sending the foundation's final decision by registered mail.
Does the work need to be viewed in person?
It depends on the artist.
Many foundations today require physical viewing of the work, especially given the increase in fakes on the market. The Archive itself establishes this based on its internal protocols.
How long does archiving take?
Processing times vary from archive to archive: in some cases, a few weeks are enough, in others, several months.
At the time of the request, we provide a forecast based on the timeframes communicated by the official body and previous experience.
Is it guaranteed that the work will be archived?
No. The final decision rests solely with the artist's Archive or Foundation.
Our role is to manage all procedures.
What are the costs of archiving a work?
The costs are established directly by the Archives or Foundations.
Before proceeding, we always inform the customer transparently, so as to allow them to make an informed choice.
What happens if I try to sell a work without archiving it?
For artists with an official archive, selling a non-archived work carries significant risks:
- inability to publish or maintain the work on our site, at the request of official bodies;
- formal removal requests from Foundations, Archives or Associations;
- Possible seizure of the work by the Carabinieri Unit for the Protection of Cultural Heritage at the request of the foundation
- legal disputes regarding authenticity.
- Experienced buyers do not purchase works by artists who have an official archive, without an official document.
- devaluation of the work
Is the storage valid forever?
Yes. Once archived, the work remains registered in the official lists of the Archive or Foundation.
