What is an art appraisal and what is it for?
Valuation is the professional analysis that allows us to define the economic value of a work of art based on technical, historical and market criteria.
What are the main factors that influence the value of a work?
The value depends on several elements, including:
- the artist's notoriety and position in the market;
- subject, technique and period of execution;
- size and rarity;
- provenance and documentation;
- state of conservation;
- artist's sales history and auction results;
- current market demand.
How much does an evaluation cost and how long does it take?
The preliminary analysis is free and without obligation. Any in-depth studies, expertise, or subsequent appraisals are subject to a fee, which will be communicated to the client in advance to ensure a clear and transparent process. The timeframe depends on the number of works and the complexity of the analysis.
Who can evaluate a work of art?
Appraisals require specific skills and ongoing training. An unprofessional appraisal can be misleading or deprive the work of its true market value.
Does the valuation take into account the state of conservation of the work?
Yes. The state of conservation significantly affects the value: damaged, poorly restored, or deteriorated works can suffer a significant reduction in price.
Can the assessment be done online or is a physical inspection required?
The preliminary assessment can be done online through photographs and documentation.
For more in-depth analyses, appraisals, or complex cases, a physical inspection of the work may be requested.
Can I request a written appraisal after a preliminary assessment?
Yes. We can proceed with either a technical appraisal, accompanied by a written report, or a sworn appraisal. Fees will be communicated during the consultation.
