Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been an artist's aspiration throughout the centuries. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Vincenzo Colucci's style follows the tradition of romantic and poetic Neapolitan landscape painting. The compositional structure of the work is based on precise design that strives for an objective, naturalistic rendering of the view. The purity of form, however, is tempered by painterly effects and a harmonious color palette that casts a warm, solar light across the entire scene.
Vincenzo Colucci was born in Ischia in 1898 and passed away in Lacco Ameno in 1970. He was a painter linked to the landscape tradition of the Neapolitan school but knew how to enliven his works with warm pictorial effects derived from the study of eighteenth-century lagoon painters and Neo-Impressionist artists such as De Pisis.
