Description of the work
Description of the work
Veronica Montanino has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows since 2000. An artist dedicated to the practice of camouflage and remix, she courts mimicry and ilinx, masks and vertigo, inviting dizziness, hallucination, disorientation, and the loss of the unambiguous meaning of the main road. High and low disappear, figure and background play hide-and-seek, creating labyrinths where we lose ourselves in search of a common thread that always turns out to be a false indication, a red herring, a trap, a dead end. A visual gymnastics that simultaneously produces mirages and conceals, breaking form, staining, streaking, and tattooing what appears familiar but perhaps isn't.
The artist best expresses his environmental attitude in site-specific installations, created in historic buildings such as the Capitani Palace in Ascoli Piceno (2006). In 2010, he created an intervention on the furniture, ceiling, and perimeter walls of the Collicola café at Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive, which became part of the permanent collection of the Carandente Museum.
In 2011, she participated in the 54th International Art Exhibition in Venice at the Italian Pavilion at the Arsenale. For the MAAM, the Museum of the Other and Elsewhere in Metropoliz, she created three large-scale site-specific works. In 2013, the Casa dell'Architettura – Ex Acquario Romano invited her to create a permanent work for the entrance wall. In 2016, the MARCA, the Museum of Arts in Catanzaro, dedicated a solo exhibition to her, "It's a Wonderful World," featuring over sixty works, including large-format paintings, assemblages, and site-specific installations.
