Description of the work
Description of the work
The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consists of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art the "Still Life" also becomes a way of interpreting reality, as it did for the Cubists or Giorgio Morandi.
In this work, Ugo Nespolo's investigation of reality leads to a true mechanomorphic reconstruction of sensory data. The fruits are transformed into veritable geometric shapes. The work flaunts its fictional nature, revealing the illusory nature of its three-dimensional design. This also makes the graphic design's distinctly pop connotation evident, further emphasized by the bold color palette.
Ugo Nespolo was born in Mosso in 1941. His artistic career in the 1960s was characterized by a distinct Pop leaning. He was also involved in conceptual movements, particularly Arte Povera. His entire artistic output is characterized by a taste for irony and fun. His most famous works present an objective reconstruction of reality through complex interplays of planes and colors.
