Description of the work
Description of the work
Aquatic landscapes are an unusual subject in the history of art. The earliest examples can be found in Roman mosaics. Some painters have explored them, exploiting the subject's unique characteristics that can stimulate their creativity. First and foremost, the liquid consistency of the space itself allows painters to play with the movement of reflections and shimmering light. Furthermore, the extraordinary polychrome variety of marine life allows the artist to create refined color fantasies. For artist Teresio Pastorino, aquatic landscapes are a favorite subject, developed in several easel works.
In this painting, artist Teresio Pastorino, starting from the sensory data of a view of the seabed, reworks the phenomenal world. This reworking is achieved through a gestural pictorialism that almost verges on the informal with its swirling and dynamic layers of color. The intense color seems to engulf the entire surface of the painting in overlapping transparent and fluorescent glazes. Yet Teresio Pastorino remains connected to the phenomenal reality, which remains perfectly legible even in his interpretation. Thus, the fish float peacefully in the space created by the painter in a vibrant image of marine life.
Teresio Pastorino is an artist primarily focused on landscape painting. His highly personal training has led him to develop his own style, which straddles the Impressionist landscape tradition and a more synthetic treatment of forms inspired by Expressionism. His work is distinguished by an eclectic approach that leads him to constantly experiment with new forms of expression.
