Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has always been an artist's aspiration. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

In composing this landscape, the painter, in addition to faithfully reproducing what he sees, also seeks to express a certain emotion tied to the place he's describing and the weather conditions that characterize it at the time he's painting. For these reasons, the artist remains connected to the sensory details of the landscape before his eyes, but interprets it with rapid, summary brushstrokes that synthesize the objects in just a few strokes. In this way, the painter has managed to infuse greater emotion into the landscape, through a pictorial style that enhances the humidity and harsh weather conditions of the scene he's depicting.

His style, therefore, is highly realistic, yet reveals some traces of poetic idealization, especially in the impressionistic technique he uses to add emotion to his scenes.
