Venice Golden Series - Punta della Dogana

The work is a night view of the final stretch of the Grand Canal. It ends with the Punta della Dogana, and the island of San Giorgio can be glimpsed in the background. The gold color is once again intended to emphasize and illuminate the depicted forms of the buildings, which are rendered three-dimensional by the use of stucco, making the figures emerge from the canvas. The aim was to enhance the luminosity afforded by the gold color, even in a nighttime setting, to create a sense of strong contrast between the dark atmosphere and the brilliance of the painted forms.

The use of the color gold in this series is intended to pay homage to the wealth and magnificence of the lagoon city, which is "precious" in every corner.
