Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has always been an artist's aspiration. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

This seascape by Tasselli, unlike much of his work, which presents a reality of pure volumes and balanced colors, presents a powerful, almost romantic atmosphere, with very strong hues. The fiery sunset prompts the artist to paint the entire canvas in a brown and reddish hue. Even on a pictorial level, the painting is very rapid, breaking down the shapes of the objects, heightening the work's expressionistic quality.

Sauro Tasselli is a Florentine painter born in 1923. His production is essentially divided into landscape views in which the pure volumes of buildings in a clear atmosphere predominate, and still lifes which he treats with a accentuated pictorial sense.
