Description of the work
Description of the work
The work in question uses a figurative artistic language. One of the most important concepts in the history of artistic production has been that of "mimesis," or the human need to imitate and reproduce nature, that which surrounds us. Nature refers to everything that can be grasped through the five senses—in short, phenomenal reality. Figurative art trends can be considered those that, in the representation of the world, adhere most closely to this objective and sensorial dimension, leaving little room for abstraction and subjective interpretation.
This lithograph demonstrates the painter Romano Parmeggiani's remarkable technical expertise. One can immediately see how the composition is well-balanced by a spatial structure built on a rigid perspective grid. The orthogonal lines, highlighted by the paneling, fade into a distance that seems almost infinite. In the foreground is Pierrot, one of Parmeggiani's favorite subjects, to which the artist manages to give a statuesque, plastic consistency through drawing and hatching. Yet the subject is softly blended into the atmosphere, perfectly fitting into the space it interacts with.
Romano Parmeggiani, Tancredi's brother, was born in Venice in 1930, but moved to Rome in 1958, where he passed away in 2002. Romano Parmeggiani's art favors masked subjects, often Pierrot figures, placed in enigmatic situations, with an almost metaphysical melancholy. The form is that of a total naturalistic rendering, verging on hyperrealism.
