Description of the work
Description of the work
In the history of art, a clear distinction can often be made between figurative and abstract stylistic movements. However, when an artist's goal is to represent an object that resonates with phenomenal reality but is also charged with hidden and symbolic meaning, this boundary can become blurred. Symbolism and Expressionism are emblematic stylistic movements in their conceptual interpretation of reality, with an iconic rendering of images and a symbolic interpretation in the use of color.
This work is part of a series of paintings in which Rino Telaro pursues a line that can be described as metaphysical-expressionist. Formally, the artist achieves an extreme synthesis of the subject, and the figurative apparatus is almost entirely emptied, reduced to a mere collection of signs and lines. For the painter, this has a powerful symbolic value, and his formal means are aimed at constructing a dimension superimposed on reality in which to identify psychic and mental energies. In this specific work, however, Rino Telaro also adds a strong connection to reality. He creates a sort of collage using advertisements and newspaper clippings, inspired by the "Poetics of the Object" typical of the New Dada aesthetic.
Rino Telaro was born in 1950 in Caserta. His artistic career, which began in 1966, has been marked by numerous experiences throughout Europe. He moved to Paris in May 1968, actively participating in cultural movements. In 1972, he returned to Italy and divided his time between Rome and Milan. In 1975, he participated in the Rome Quadrennial. From 1976, he lived in London for twelve years, where he frequented important critics and artists. He is a member of the "Artists for Democracy" group, whose theorist Guy Brett is connected to the Italian group "Cosa Mentale." Since 2000, he has lived in Brussels.
