Description of the work
Description of the work
Carlo Collodi's celebrated work, written in 1881, is interpreted by artist Antonio Nocera in this illustrated edition from FAS publishing house. Antonio Nocera is deeply connected to the character in the novel, using him as a metaphor for life. He embodies lightheartedness, a spirit of adventure, and a playful spirit. All of this is interwoven with the difficult choices this character faces, constantly on the edge but always with a lighthearted attitude.
The strength of this illustration lies both in the story itself, with a protagonist engulfed in daring adventures, and in the material power the author unleashes through his art. The stylization of the figures, with their frenetic and broken rhythms, creates an expressionistic synthesis that reduces the figure. The duotone chromatic effect also reinforces this dialectic between line, form, and material, offering us a moment of informality within a story we all know. Antonio Nocera, thanks to his artistry and passion for the character, offers enjoyable reading moments that immerse us in the heart of the story.
Antonio Nocera was born in Caivano in 1949 and trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. His artistic career developed primarily in Milan, where he lived since 1970 and frequented the artistic circles of Brera and the Navigli area. His fame is now international, thanks to the numerous exhibitions in which his paintings have been shown around the world. His themes often draw from fairy tales and legends, creating symbolic subjects that resonate with contemporary reality. Much of Antonio Nocera's work is also inspired by sacred art.
