Description of the work
Description of the work
The human figure has always been at the center of artistic research. Since the classical age, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been a primary goal of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the nude is the ultimate expression of this aspiration, pervasive across all eras and stylistic trends. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations of the Renaissance and various classicisms, which aimed for a truthful and detailed representation of the human body, the nude has also been a central theme in the new aesthetic concepts brought about by the historical avant-garde movements, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism.
The language of the painter Pietro Cordici is perfectly recognizable in its expressive peculiarities, founded primarily on the structural value the artist gives to his brushstrokes. His paintings, in fact, are always complex constructions in which space and objects integrate into a multifaceted surface. This occurs because Cordici, evidently inspired by Cézanne and Cubism, arranges his brushstrokes on different planes, enhancing the volumes in an almost geometric manner. The most personal elements of Cordici's style can be recognized in the painter's ability to modulate, in this construction of a multifaceted space, dense networks of long, thin strokes or broad, dense strokes of color. And finally, it is color itself that definitively characterizes Pietro Cordici's personality. The artist is distinguished by his use of accentuated polychromy, which corresponds to the aforementioned complexity of his pictorial layering, and by his choice of warm hues, linked to his homeland, which fill his paintings with an enveloping light.
Pietro Cordici is a painter originally from Sant'Agata di Militello, where he was born in 1951 and where he still lives and works. His training began with a diploma from the Art Institute of Santo Stefano di Camastra in 1969, and he then attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo. In addition to being a renowned painter and sculptor, Cordici also devoted himself to graphic design and set design. His first exhibition was held in 1966 at the Circolo Universitario Santagatese. In 1977, he moved to Milan, began attending the Brera Academy, and joined the "Nuovo Informale" group. In 1978, he returned to figurative art and, upon returning to Sicily, studied the culture and traditions of the Nebrodi Mountains. His works have been exhibited in numerous group and solo shows and are held in various public and private collections.
