Description of the work
Description of the work
The work in question uses a figurative artistic language. One of the most important concepts in the history of artistic production has been that of "mimesis," or the human need to imitate and reproduce nature, that which surrounds us. Nature refers to everything that can be grasped through the five senses—in short, phenomenal reality. Figurative art trends can be considered those that, in the representation of the world, adhere most closely to this objective and sensorial dimension, leaving little room for abstraction and subjective interpretation.
Pier Toffoletti is an artist who, starting from a formal language that is essentially figurative, has developed his own personal poetics. The images are rendered with perfect naturalism; the artist possesses a remarkable drawing technique that allows him to faithfully reproduce reality. The subjects are then subjected to Toffoletti's pictorial experimentation, and through his brushstrokes, he creates an intersection of planes that almost disintegrates the faces and bodies. In this painting, thanks to the mixed technique, the painter creates a cracking, a material quality that ages the figure, making it diaphanous and evanescent, like an image from memory.
Pier Toffoletti was born in 1957 in the province of Udine. His artistic passion began at a young age and is intertwined with his work as a speleologist. Toffoletti's artistic language, in fact, draws on nature: he feels the need to create on the painted surface like slabs of stone on which to inscribe signs and graffiti. In this way, Toffoletti manages to combine his academic training with his passion for rocks. He has participated in numerous events both in Italy and abroad, including the Venice Biennale and Art Basel.
