Description of the work
Description of the work
The urban landscape was already a popular subject in the Middle Ages and the Modern Era, but predominantly in an idealized manner. Scenes of city life became typical themes with a more realistic interpretation starting in the 19th century. It's worth remembering how, immediately following the realist movements of the 19th century, the Impressionists also placed great emphasis on the everyday, on everyday life, with a certain predilection, however, for the frenetic pace of the city, its crowds, traffic, and typically bourgeois settings.
Orlando Menchis's painting style is also based on a process of synthesis in an expressionistic direction. This process relies essentially on color applied with a dense, energetic brushstroke. The brushstrokes are well-detached, almost as if to show off the texture through which the objects are constructed. This painter's language is very instinctive, and his expressionism is deliberately childish with a certain naive edge.
Orlando Bonechi was born in 1921 in Florence. He trained under Ottone Rosai and began painting under the name Orlando Menchis, focusing primarily on landscapes and urban views. He exhibited his paintings in various exhibitions, gaining great favor, especially among Florentine intellectual circles.
