Description of the work
Description of the work
The work can be defined as a genre scene, that is, the depiction of an episode of everyday life that, apparently, lacks any significant element. These types of domestic subjects were long considered minor and only began to spread in Western art starting in the 17th century. Only with the development of 19th-century realism did everyday subjects become considered equally important as historical or religious ones. The Impressionists, in particular, favored subjects related to modern life in urban, bourgeois settings. More specifically, Nani Razetti's artistic production is directed at investigating, along the lines of existentialism and the analysis of human relationships, an intimate world, captured in the everydayness of its gestures and rituals.
Nani Razetti's painting style, both in his existential subjects and his landscapes, is distinguished by its originality, making it highly recognizable. His language can certainly be defined as minimal expressionism. Indeed, the artist creates a highly accentuated synthesis of subjects, achieved entirely through the application of color. The distinctive feature of Razetti's artistic approach is that this synthesis is constructed with very few marks, which stand out in the emptiness of a white space. Hence the strongly minimal nature of Nani Razetti's style, which, however, leverages precisely this suspension in a seemingly infinite space, from which the highly expressive nature of his few pictorial gestures emerges thanks to their powerful personality. This same minimalism is consistently maintained in his palette, which always features the use of one or two colors, chosen according to a profound sense of balance and harmony within the composition.
Nani Razetti was a painter born in Genoa in 1924 and died in Diamante on October 21, 2013. A brilliant and multifaceted artist, a man of great sensitivity, he is remembered not only for his paintings but also as a "Master of Murals." Franco Razetti received numerous awards throughout his career and was also a participant in the Valbruna Prize.
