Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been an artist's aspiration throughout the centuries. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
This painting showcases Moreno Morelli's distinctive style, which is essentially based on color. The painter constructs the figures through a thick layer of paint. Broad brushstrokes lay down the color, bringing the subjects to life, who interact with the space they occupy. Indeed, the entire surface of the painting is composed of a seamless pictorial blend. Through this layering, of post-Impressionist origin, the subject undergoes a significant process of synthesis, yet gains in expressionistic vigor. A common feature of Morelli's artistic production are the palette of blues, pale blues, and violets.
Moreno Morelli was a Pisan painter born in 1930 and died in 1989. His artistic output focused primarily on landscapes, genre scenes, and still lifes. His highly synthetic painting style is based on the application of dense, thick colors and displays a strong Symbolist-Expressionist influence.
