Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

Watercolor is a prime example of Mimmo Legato's style. His pictorial conception is based on broad, diluted brushstrokes, through which the color spreads in transparent glazes. These broad brushstrokes form streaks of color that, horizontally or vertically, break up the space, shattering it into overlapping planes. The quality of the brushstroke is extremely striking, highly gestural, making the work vibrant with vitality. All this is in perfect harmony with Legato's colors, always vibrant, warm, vibrant, and lively.

Mimmo Legato was born in Bova Marina, Calabria. In addition to being an artist, he also teaches painting at the Art School in Cosenza. His career began in 1973, while still a student at the Academy, where he also trained under Giuseppe Marino. His first exhibition was in Mantua for the Lubiam Prize. A long series of exhibitions throughout Italy followed.
