Description of the work
Description of the work
In the history of art, a clear distinction can often be made between figurative and abstract stylistic movements. However, when an artist's goal is to represent an object that resonates with phenomenal reality but is also charged with hidden and symbolic meaning, this boundary can become blurred. Symbolism and Expressionism are emblematic stylistic movements in their conceptual interpretation of reality, with an iconic rendering of images and a symbolic interpretation in the use of color.
As we can also see in this painting, Mario Vespasiani's conception of artistic creation necessarily begins with reality, which is then transfigured through the expressive and symbolic potential of color. In this work, it is as if Vespasiani were reviving the poetics of the typically New Dada object, transforming a common, everyday product into a work of art. However, Vespasiani accomplishes this operation entirely pictorially, reproducing the object rather than physically placing it. Obviously, the application of the paint draws on a gestural style typical of American Abstract Expressionism, with the addition of highly symbolic, symbolic indications typical of this painter.
Mario Vespasiani is an artist from the Marche region, born in 1978 and residing in Ripatransone. Vespasiani is not only dedicated to painting, but has also experimented with various art forms, including photography, performance, writing, and installation. To date, he has exhibited throughout Italy, in galleries, museums, and places of worship. He exhibited in 2011 at the Italian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, curated by Vittorio Sgarbi, in the Turin venue, and here with Imago Mundi at the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo. He recently exhibited in Venice and Chiavenna as part of the group show "Our Place in Space," promoted by NASA and ESA, which will continue on a world tour in 2018.
