Description of the work
Description of the work
Margherita Martinelli's works draw on a predominantly Informal aesthetic. The various Informal movements are certainly connected to American Abstract Expressionism, especially in their gestural component, but they go further in their rejection of any figurative element, even geometric. Their research focuses instead on the materials they use to compose their works.
However, in the works from the "Danzami" series, we can see how Margherita Martinelli creates a sort of marriage between the Poetics of the Object and the Informal. Indeed, the protagonist of the work is the ballerina's tutu, a common object reproduced, however, in a hermetic manner, as is typical of this artist. The object is almost evoked in a transfigured context, rendered lyrical by the artist's gestural use of color.
Margherita Martinelli was born in 1981 in Crema (Cremona). After studying at the Munari Art School, she enrolled at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. Margherita has devoted herself entirely to painting, collaborating with Italian and international galleries that promote her work. In 2007, she was a finalist for the Donato Frisia national prize, and in 2009 she won the Patrizia Barlettani public award at the San Lorenzo gallery in Milan. In 2011, she was a finalist for the Ciaccio Broker prize for young Italian painting at ArtVerona. In 2011, she joined the artists of the Barsky Gallery in New York, with which she participated in several fairs in the United States (Aaf New York, Market Art & Design Hamptons). In 2013, she was invited by Lorella Giudici to take part in the Brain Art project in Vercelli. In 2015, she created an installation inside the Raumen Museum in Shin-Yokohama, Tokyo, for the CasaLuca Milano project. His works are currently exhibited by Italian and international galleries, including Galleria Ghiggini, Zaion Gallery, and Galleria Palmieri. Internationally, his works are exhibited at Barsky Gallery, New York.
