Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has always been an artist's aspiration. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

In this work by Mancanello, we find a very traditional approach, starting with the spatial structure, based on principles of orthogonal perspective. It's clear that the artist placed utmost importance on drawing, which largely constitutes the compositional framework of the work. Little room is left, however, for pictorial effects, so much so that the colors appear bright and devoid of atmospheric effects.

The painter Mancanello is an artist primarily engaged in landscape painting, which he interprets in a very traditional way but with his own naive streak that tends to simplify reality, making it more expressive.
