Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

Manlio Bacosi is a painter who transfigures reality in a refined stylistic blend of Expressionism and Informalism. The landscape undergoes a profound process of synthetic reduction that leads the artist to depict a minimal world, indicated by a few marks on flat, uniform layers of color in a two-dimensional space. In this way, Bacosi creates an almost surreal dimension, also characterized by colors with a highly symbolic and spiritual value. In this context, the artist also intervenes with a certain gestural nature that leads him to superimpose even more mysterious and hermetic pictorial signs onto this reality.
Manlio Bacosi was a painter originally from Perugia, born in 1921 and died in 1998. He trained under Leo Ravazzi and Gerardo Dottori. Beginning in 1947, he was featured in numerous exhibitions not only in Italy but also abroad. Among the most important are the 1972 retrospective in Todi and solo exhibitions in Recanati for the Leopardi Festival and in Montecatini in 1975.
