Description of the work
Description of the work
Flowers as a subject in themselves began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the floral world as an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers began to appear not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers also becomes a way of interpreting reality.
In this vase of flowers, Sopelsa's synthesis is achieved entirely through color. The forms become evanescent through a highly painterly application that renders the space sulfurous. In this charged atmosphere, the painter can blend his brightly colored colors and create a lively and expressively powerful composition.
Luciano Sopelsa is a Venetian artist born in 1921. He trained under Bruno Saetti, serving as his assistant for two years. From his master, he undoubtedly learned a taste for geometric compositions and the expressionist synthesis of phenomenal reality, although he often remained more attached to a figurative style. He frescoed several churches in the Veneto region.
