During the 1950s and 1960s, the so-called poetics of the object began to spread in European and American art. Harking back to the readymades of Dadaist memory, a new wave of groups or movements emerged that repurposed everyday objects as works of art. The departure from traditional Dada lay in the strong influence of Abstract Expressionism, which led to the reconfiguration of objects with new languages ​​and new stimuli.

In the case of past artistic movements, the objects chosen were predominantly from industrial society; they were therefore discarded elements that were recontextualized into works of art. Luca Cavani, on the other hand, uses objects from nature, also discarded, that is, elements that have completed their life cycle: the artist grants them a new existence by transferring them into the work. The basic concept is always the same as the poetics of the object, however: to suddenly introduce the dimension of reality into the work of art. In this case, plants and leaves with their natural wilting. Not to be overlooked is the pictorial intervention, which for Cavani too is based on a gesture similar to Abstract Expressionism.

Luca Cavani is an artist engaged in assemblages composed with plant elements in a spirit that partly recalls the poetics of the object from the 1950s and 1960s.
