Description of the work
Description of the work
A splendid, detailed, color reproduction of the Book of Hours created in the early 16th century for the Bolognese nobleman Bonaparte Ghisleri. In commissioning this manuscript, Ghisleri sought to bring together some of the finest Italian artists of the period, offering a small anthology of the best the Bolognese school of miniatures had to offer at the time. Thus, we see, among others, the work of Perugino in the Saint Sebastian (the only extant miniature by the great painter), Amico Aspertini in the Adoration of the Shepherds, Lorenzo Costa, and Matteo da Milano.
