Description of the work
Description of the work
Portraiture is one of the most widespread artistic expressions, especially in painting, but also in sculpture, throughout the ages. Portraiture is, first and foremost, a description of the subject depicted, an attempt to capture their physiognomy and individual characteristics truthfully and naturally. With the progressive evolution of artistic research, the physiognomic description of the subject has also been accompanied by a psychological one. Therefore, over the centuries, portraiture has also become a means of introspective investigation of the subject, their character, and their state of mind. The processes of abstraction brought about by contemporary art have contributed to this type of investigation.
Ladislao Nocentini's style can be defined as a kind of figurative expressionism. Indeed, his works are based on solid, confident drawing, in which the plastic exaltation of his subjects prevails. However, Nocentini leans heavily on nature to give greater expressive force. His figures are thus subject to deformations, dilated limbs, and unnatural positions. Even the color transcends naturalism and has emotional and spiritual connotations. The space is completely decontextualized, and here too, expressionistic color prevails.
Ladislao Nocentini is a painter born in Arezzo in 1946. He taught for many years in both Florence and Bari. His artistic career began in 1962, participating in numerous solo and group exhibitions. He trained under important masters such as Grazzini, Federici, Gatti, Guasti, Gemignani, and Martinelli. Renowned critics such as Federici, Baldini, Serafini, Paloscia, and Fagioli have written about him. His works are held in public and private collections.
