Description of the work
Description of the work
Jean Molik is an extremely eclectic artist who navigates multiple expressive planes. The appeal and originality of his artistic production lies in his ability to juggle diverse languages and media, not only from one composition to the next, but also within the same work. This artist's research thus explores diverse terrains, from painting to assemblage, from abstract to informal, while always maintaining unity and coherence within the individual works.
In this work, artist Jean Molik draws on an aesthetic that, since the 1960s, has explored the use of media and languages that are entirely different from traditional ones. Indeed, this composition unfolds as an assemblage, in which the artist experiments with an unusual medium in the application of three squares of rough parchment. This all points to a new conception of artistic practice, open to new materials that can incorporate different perceptual stimuli (such as tactile sensation) and have a more direct connection with reality. The raw nature of this unworked medium, in fact, introduces the work to all the randomness of reality. On this already innovative medium, Jean Molik proceeds to a further level of experimentation, this time focusing on expressive language. The central panel features a sort of sea monster, rendered in a totally abstract manner bordering on informality. The central panel is echoed in the lower right section, where the detail with the flag is reworked. In the top right panel, however, the artist completely changes the expressive medium, entrusting the interpretative key of the entire work directly to the writing.
Jean Molik is an artist with a decidedly experimental attitude, leading him to continually explore different expressive languages. For this reason, his works consistently present themselves as richly stimulating, yet original and innovative.
