Description of the work
Description of the work
The human figure has always been at the center of artistic research. Since the classical age, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been a primary goal of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the female figure is an expression of this aspiration, pervasive across all eras and stylistic trends. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations of the Renaissance and various classicisms, which aimed for a truthful and detailed representation of the human body, the female figure has also been a central theme in the new aesthetic concepts brought about by the historical avant-garde, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism. Innocenzo Melani is an artist specialized in the representation of women, creating an ideal image of them, especially in his photolithographs. His aesthetic is based on lightness and softness, not only in the forms but also in the clothing, almost always a brilliant white, and the large hats that almost shroud the female figures in a veil of mystery. The sweetness of the woman corresponds to that of the landscape in which she moves, whether it is seascapes or cultivated fields, it too is characterised by the prevalence of a light-filled white.
This work is typical of Innocenzo Melani's oeuvre. His favorite subjects are female figures, often portrayed in graceful poses and always dressed in a light white dress and a large hat. This work uses a figurative artistic language. Melani adheres to a completely naturalistic rendering of the female figure, free from any subjective interpretation. There is an almost photographic realism that captures every detail with the utmost care. Even in this photolithography, however, one can glimpse the subtle pictorialism that distinguishes Melani's style. In terms of color, the painter opts for a monochrome that emphasizes the sense of sweetness and purity of the representation.
Innocenzo Melani was born in 1933. He is a painter who has chosen to devote himself almost entirely to female subjects, portraying them in various situations, always united, however, by a sense of unreality, almost as if they were images from a dream or a memory. His paintings today belong to private and public collections in the USA and Switzerland, Peru and Germany, Portugal and Canada, as well as in Japan, Austria, Norway, Spain, and Belgium.
