Description of the work
Description of the work
The work is an abstract composition. "Abstract" derives from the Latin term "abstrahere," which means to extract or draw out. The process of abstraction, in fact, consists of eliminating the particular and individual aspects of an object to derive a universal concept. From Kandinsky to Mondrian, from Pollock to Mirò, many painters have pushed the process of abstraction to the limit in their works, paradoxically creating pure forms and pure colors that do not exist in nature, or translating their emotions and instincts into images.
In this work on paper, Gualtiero Nativi seems to abandon the geometric rigor customary in his abstract compositions, favoring instead an aesthetic inspired by the Informal School. This Informal language recalls the French school, particularly Fautrier and his "Hostages." Nativi's drawing, in fact, almost seems to attempt to reproduce on paper, using an illusionistic technique, the relief of the material, a fundamental component of French Informal Art. Furthermore, within this trompe-l'oeil texture, Nativi also introduces a gestural component, inserting a fracture at the center of the subject.
Gualtiero Nativi, Pistoia 1921 - Siena 1999, was a key figure in contemporary Italian painting. Indeed, he, along with Berti, Brunetti, and Farulli, founded Classical Florentine Abstraction, which, alongside the MAC and Forma 1 groups, believed in the complete reconstruction of artistic language through concrete images of form and color. In the Florentines, and in Nativi in particular, this dogma resulted in compositions of great compositional rigor based on a solid geometric structure.
