Description of the work
Description of the work
In the history of art, a clear distinction can often be made between figurative and abstract stylistic movements. However, when an artist's goal is to represent an object that resonates with phenomenal reality but is also charged with hidden and symbolic meaning, this boundary can become blurred. Symbolism and Expressionism are emblematic stylistic movements in their conceptual interpretation of reality, with an iconic rendering of images and a symbolic interpretation in the use of color.
In this seascape with boats on the ocean, Giusy D'Arrigo displays her full creative verve. While the subject remains connected to phenomenal reality, through a structure comprehensible in the reference point of the sails unfurled in the wind, the interpretative modality extends beyond the five senses. Thus, the entire composition becomes a feast of colors distributed across the canvas with a gestural attitude. Consequently, the waves of the sea converge in an abstract expressionist composition where nature is transcended and the image essentially reveals an emotional and spiritual component.
Giusy D'Arrigo is an artist originally from Paris, where she was born in 1970. She later moved to Sicily for a time, but currently lives and works in Rome. Her training began in France, and she has been featured in numerous exhibitions and shows in Parisian ateliers and boulevards. The traveling exhibition Metamorfosi, dedicated to her late brother Angelo, a multiple free-flying champion, was a great success, and toured cities such as Buenos Aires, New York, Los Angeles, Milan, and Rome. Her solo exhibition in New York's Soho, titled Spiral Life, was a significant success. Her works are included in numerous private collections.
