Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been an artist's aspiration throughout the centuries. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
In his paintings, Giustino Novelli's conception of landscape perfectly matches the work's formal purity. Indeed, in this painting too, we can see how the scene is constructed according to a balanced system of clear volumes. A highly rational composition, therefore, that almost verges on geometry but stops short of a representation still rooted in reality. However, the form is totally objectifying and produces a sense of suspension bordering on metaphysics. Typical of Novelli is the work's coherence within the tonal unity of the whole.
Giustino Novelli is a painter originally from Chieti. His work focuses primarily on landscapes. He has a highly complex vision of the work, one that seeks absolute formal purity. This is expressed by Giustino Novelli in a technique of transparent glazes, which he uses to create extremely lyrical views. In other cases, he does not shy away from a more hyperrealistic and illusory form.
