Giuseppe Maldarelli - The gypsy

A realism, therefore, with an idealizing, Romantic feel, formally expressed through a vibrant, densely atmospheric brushstroke. These are the characteristics we also find in this painting by Maldarelli, in which the popular figure of the gypsy is delineated with a rapid, flowing brushstroke, imbued with the complexity of 19th-century painting.

Giuseppe Maldarelli was a painter originally from Naples, born in 1885 and died in 1958. He trained at the Brera Academy. Throughout his career, he exhibited at the Venice Biennale and other important national events.
