Description of the work
Description of the work
The work is an abstract composition. "Abstract" derives from the Latin term "abstrahere," which means to extract or draw out. The process of abstraction, in fact, consists of eliminating the particular and individual aspects of an object to derive a universal concept. From Kandinsky to Mondrian, from Pollock to Mirò, many painters have pushed the process of abstraction to the limit in their works, paradoxically creating pure forms and pure colors that do not exist in nature, or translating their emotions and instincts into images.
The print reflects an artistic language that resonates with Gino Cortelazzo's sculptural production. It is an abstraction that advances both biological and geometric forms in compositions that exhibit a marked dynamism combined with a refined, rational harmony. Naturally, being a print, everything here is played out on a two-dimensional plane in a subtle and elegant graphic line.
Gino Cortelazzo was an Italian sculptor from Este, born in 1927 and died in 1985. In 1970, he was appointed professor of sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna, where he taught alongside Giò Pomodoro, Luca Crippa, Tono Zancanaro, and Massimo Carrà. In the 1970s, he entered the fashion world in Milan, creating jewelry. In 1975, Giulio Carlo Argan presented his work in a series of exhibitions in Austria and Germany, and later in Latin America. In 1980, he opened his home and studio in Este.
