All of painter Genny Dimaggio's works are directed toward a refined and highly personal aesthetic. The starting point is undoubtedly a certain expressionist influence, evident in her tendency to simplify forms. The artist doesn't linger on objective details, instead transforming her subjects into icons. In short, there is an exercise in abstraction that tends to universalize forms in the name of a shared aesthetic. Her use of color is predominantly symbolist, aimed at expressing emotion rather than naturalism. In this painting, the painter experiments with a more rugged and aggressive Expressionism. The mixed technique of watercolor and ink allows her to further synthesize the figures and make them more abstract. Even in terms of color, the composition veers toward cooler tones than usual. Genny Dimaggio, an artist from Puglia, was born in 1951. She showed artistic talent from an early age, but her painting training took place in Turin, where, in addition to attending the Accademia Albertina, she founded the Il Radiante gallery. Open to a wide range of stimuli and influences, she has exhibited in several shows in Italy and won numerous awards. Her painting is influenced by expressionist and symbolist tendencies.
