Description of the work
Description of the work
The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consists of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art the "Still Life" also becomes a way of interpreting reality, as it did for the Cubists or Giorgio Morandi.
Gaetano Bocchetti's style is based on a refined pictorialism that seeks not to render objects naturally, but to represent their true essence. The composition transcends the rules of perspective, presenting objects on a substantially two-dimensional plane. There is no spatial depth, but each subject creates its own volume through brushstrokes that construct volumes by arranging themselves on different planes. Bocchetti's brushwork imbues his subjects with intense existential vibrations. In this way, his artistic practice manages to go beyond phenomenal reality to delve deeply into the true essence of things.
Gaetano Bocchetti was born in Milan in 1888 and died in Naples in 1992. He participated in numerous exhibitions both in Italy and abroad. In 1920 he participated in the Venice Biennale, in 1921 in the Rome Quadrennial, and in 1923 and subsequent years, in the Naples National Biennale. In Italy he also painted frescoes in several churches. Several of his works are held in public and private collections.
