Description of the work
Description of the work
This type of subject can be classified within the metaphysical aesthetic. The artistic movement founded by Giorgio de Chirico reclaims images that already exist, familiar to the collective imagination. However, it creates an effect of alienation through the process of displacement, that is, the sudden appearance of an object outside its usual context, or through condensation, the fusion of multiple objects into a single entity. Metaphysical art is also distinguished by the ostentatiously illusory nature of its images.
Furio Castellucci, drawing on the influence of the metaphysical school, also constructs his subjects using the method of condensation and displacement. However, we can see how the overall atmosphere of Castellucci's works is more exaggerated, pushing his poetics toward Surrealism. This is also evident on a formal level, where Castellucci prefers an exaggerated hyperrealism inspired by Dalí to the suggestive illusionism of De Chirico.
Furio Castellucci is an artist originally from San Giovanni in Valdarno, where he was born in 1957. During his career he has received several important awards, such as the ITI Painting Prize, S. Giovanni Valdarno 1972, the ex aequo painting prize “National Competition” Castel Maggiore (Bologna 1984), the ex aequo painting prize “National Labour Day Prize” Montecarlo in San Giovanni Valdarno, the “Florence Prize 1999”: He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions.
