Description of the work
Description of the work
The painting can be defined as a genre scene, that is, the depiction of an episode of everyday life that, apparently, lacks any significant element. These types of domestic subjects were long considered minor and only began to spread in Western art starting in the 17th century. Only with the development of 19th-century realism did everyday subjects become considered as important as historical or religious ones.
Franco Murer's style is a recurring theme in his work: his compositions are always based on a fluid rhythm that imbues the painting's surface with a swirling motion. This rhythm is triggered by the color flowing freely across the canvas, determining the curvilinear movements that characterize the pictorial space and, in parallel, constructing forms that follow the same linear progression. In this way, objects are synthesized in a kind of color-based expressionism.
Franco Murer was born in Falcade in 1952, where he still lives and works. A painter and sculptor, he is the son of Augusto Murer, from whom he learned his artistic techniques. In 1974, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, where he studied under Alberto Viani. That same year, he was awarded a Young European Artists Award in Turin, and in 1975, he participated in the Rome Quadriennale. He has participated in numerous exhibitions both in Italy and abroad.
