Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been an artist's aspiration throughout the centuries. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
In this painting, painter Franco Hippert demonstrates a phase in his artistic evolution where color takes over to the point of reaching an expressionist level. Indeed, the subjects are remarkably synthesized by the brushstrokes, which follow a frenetic rhythm. Chromatically, the entire work is based on shades of blue, which do not entirely reflect a naturalistic rendering, but rather an emotional and spiritual state of mind.
Franco Hippert is a Livorno-based painter born in 1932. He is essentially an academically trained artist, but possesses a modern sensibility that leads him to experimentation. His favorite subjects are landscapes, vases of flowers, and still lifes.
