Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been an artist's aspiration throughout the centuries. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
In this work, Eugenio Azzocchi demonstrates his technical prowess in graphic design. The view of the village emerges from a rapid, highly animated hatching. This hatching forms a system of lines from which the objects take shape. The beauty of the work lies in the artist's ability to convey a sense of volume and, consequently, space through this rapid graphic technique.
Eugenio Azzocchi was born in Gavignano in 1910 and passed away in Jesi in 1979. Ordained a priest, he also served as an army chaplain in Africa during World War II. In 1958, he moved permanently to the Carmelite convent in Jesi. Meanwhile, he had already attended the Art Institute and the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1959, his first exhibition took place at the Jesi civic club, followed by other exhibitions in various Italian cities. In addition to being a painter, he was also a poet and musician.
