Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has always been an artist's aspiration. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

The cool tones, ranging from grays and pale blues, fill the scene with a dull light. Lalli's brushstroke is complex: he almost seems to rough-hew the forms, but in reality he analyzes them into a complex and multifaceted surface.

Ettore Lalli was born in Bonefro in 1897 and died in Naples in 1949. He trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. In his paintings, he captured the character of the people of Molise, using vigorous brushstrokes and dense, textured colors. Between the 1930s and 1950s, he participated in various exhibitions. His works are held in numerous public and private collections.
