Enzo Filippini - Homage to Mirò "La nuit"

The work is an abstract composition. "Abstract" derives from the Latin term "abstrahere," which means to extract or draw out. The process of abstraction, in fact, consists of eliminating the particular and individual aspects of an object to derive a universal concept. From Kandinsky to Mondrian, from Pollock to Mirò, many painters have pushed the process of abstraction to the limit in their works, paradoxically creating pure forms and pure colors that do not exist in nature, or translating their emotions and instincts into images.

The work is a tribute to Juan Mirò, whose playful and vibrant surrealism Filippini replicates in his interpretation engraved in plaster. The process of abstraction is pushed to the limit, resulting in the formation of biomorphic entities that float within the composition as if in amniotic fluid. The background, conceived by Filippini, is textured, deliberately rough, with a gestural texture against which the floating entities are forced to contend.

Enzo Filippini was an artist originally from Brescia, where he was born in 1924 and passed away in 2001. His pictorial production was highly eclectic, with references ranging from Utrillo to Mirò, but some inspiration can also be found in Roualt. He created the emblem of the Tricolore acrobatic team. He exhibited his works in numerous locations, including London, Brescia, Lignano Riviera, Milan, Turin, Gorizia, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Rovereto, New York, Treviso, Biella, and Bergamo.
