Description of the work
Description of the work
The work has a marked expressionist vocation, which tends to emphasize the expression of emotions. Expressionist art seeks to proclaim its moods to the world and flaunt them with passion. Formally, this translates into a summary rendering of the figures, through a very nervous and animated line, as well as the use of a violent color palette.
This painting can be described as expressive in color, as the work isn't constructed with bold, dynamic strokes like those of historical Expressionism. Instead, artist Edolo Masci uses an almost gestural approach to delineate the subject in a tormented manner. The two-dimensional space and total absence of plasticity can be seen in the best Expressionist tradition. The color palette also shows little respect for nature, instead revealing a spiritual vocation.
Edolo Masci was born in Castiglione a Casauria in 1938 and passed away in Rome in 2008. His fame is primarily linked to his cliché-verre engraving technique. His career developed in Rome, where Masci frequented Mino Maccari, Libero De Libero, and Rafael Alberti. He exhibited his work at all the most important events in Lazio and, several times, at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome.
