Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has always been an artist's aspiration. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
The entire research of Davide Coltro, inventor of the electronic picture frame, focuses on the existence of electrical energy fields in phenomenal reality. These energies are invisible, but Davide Coltro seeks to bring them to light. In his paintings, he seeks to advance this discourse even without the use of a true technological medium, addressing his needs solely through color. Hence, technopainting, a type of color endowed with its own luminescence and fluorescence. By applying this type of layering to a landscape, the artist creates a luminous installation, similar to a land art project. Compositionally, the landscape becomes minimal, transforming into a balanced, almost abstract field of color.
Davide Coltro was born in Verona in 1967. He is famous for having invented the electronic picture frame and has therefore participated in several important exhibitions in Italy and abroad. He participated in the Venice Biennale in 2011. His installations have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art (Moscow), the ZKM Museum Karlsruhe (Germany), the Urban Planning Center (Shanghai), the Palazzo della Ca' D'Oro in conjunction with the 53rd Venice Biennale, the Palazzo Forti Museum of Modern Art (Verona), the Mart (Rovereto – Trento), the ETAGI Loft Project (St. Petersburg), the Luigi Pecci Center (Prato), the Farnesina Collection in Rome, the Unicredit Collection, and the VAF-Stiftung Collection.
