Davide Berrettini - Siena, the Cathedral

Siena Cathedral is one of the most important places in the city for the Sienese, to which each of us is attached and has great respect. I wanted to draw it at a time when the entire city, and therefore the 17 districts, pay homage to the Assumption during the candle ceremony. The colors of the districts contrast with the black and white (which is actually the green of the serpentine marble) of the Gothic cathedral, making the square unique. On the side of one wall of the cathedral there is a small magic square carved on a marble slab: S A T O R A R E P O T E N E T O P E R A R O T A S Difficult to interpret, but recurring in many sacred monuments, for the meaning see: :https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadrato_del_Sator   I preferred, unusually for me, to keep the colors a little less bright, as a sign of respect for the architecture and its great religious and symbolic significance for every Sienese.
