Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
The ink is particularly interesting because, compared to Cino Bozzetti's usual work, the artist here presents a much more synthetic vision of the landscape. We can appreciate how the landscape is drawn in a very cursive manner, with quick, thin lines or hatching. The rest is entrusted to diluted watercolor, creating monochrome layers tending toward gray. Through these brief transitions of tone, the landscape takes shape, very expressively, with its nuances and light.
Cino Bozzetti was born in Lecce in 1876 and passed away in Borgoratto Alessandrino in 1949. The son of a Garibaldian who participated in the Expedition of the Thousand, he was a painter, engraver, and watercolorist. He was almost entirely self-taught, attending only three months of Romolo Ubertalli's course at the Accademia Albertina in Turin. He worked under Carlo Follini, a student of Fontanesi. He painted primarily in watercolor and made charcoal and sepia drawings. Many of his works are studies of flowers or insects. Some of Cino Bozzetti's works are held at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Turin. He participated in the Venice Biennale several times.
