Description of the work
Description of the work
This type of subject can be classified within the metaphysical aesthetic. The artistic movement founded by Giorgio de Chirico reclaims images that already exist, familiar to the collective imagination. However, it creates an effect of alienation through the process of displacement, that is, the sudden appearance of an object outside its usual context, or through condensation, the fusion of multiple objects into a single entity. Metaphysical art is also distinguished by the ostentatiously illusory nature of its images.
Much of Chiara Smirne's artistic production is dedicated to the metropolitan landscape, interpreted through the artist's unique vision that transcends the mere depiction of reality. Smirne, in fact, has an alienating vision of the city, trapped in an enigmatic and mysterious dimension where human presence appears in an unexpected and surreal way. The painter achieves this through the development of complex and visionary iconographies, which are also reflected in her search for a consistent formal quality. Chiara Smirne's distinctiveness lies in the fact that her metropolitan metaphysics is neither suggestive nor illusory like De Chirico's, nor hyperrealist. Instead, the painter chooses a third path: that of pop culture, particularly with industrial design and comics. This is evident in the purity and essentiality of her lines and the aggressiveness of her colors.
Chiara Smirne is a painter originally from Novara, where she was born in 1983, but trained in Milan, where she moved at age 25. She attended advanced art courses such as the NABA Academy and the Scuola Superiore d'Arte Applicata del Castello Sforzesco. Her artistic production seeks a surreal dimension in metropolitan spaces, where the human presence appears sporadically and unexpectedly. Chiara Smirne's works have been exhibited in numerous exhibitions, including abroad, in cities such as Berlin, New York, and Barcelona.
