Description of the work
Description of the work
The urban landscape was already a popular subject in the Middle Ages and the Modern Era, but predominantly in an idealized manner. Scenes of city life became typical themes with a more realistic interpretation starting in the 19th century. It's worth remembering how, immediately following the realist movements of the 19th century, the Impressionists also placed great emphasis on the everyday, on everyday life, with a certain predilection, however, for the frenetic pace of the city, its crowds, traffic, and typically bourgeois settings.
This small glimpse of the village was created with a very spontaneous yet effective and direct technique. Space is created through the trajectory of simple lines directed toward vanishing points. There's an almost naive simplicity, a deliberate pursuit of essential and primary values in the representation. Chromatically, the gold leaf interacts with the colors of the painting, filling the entire scene with a warm light.
The artist behind this painting demonstrates a fine painting technique, which he expresses in very simple yet effective compositions. His style, essential and meticulous, can be described as calligraphic.
