Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has always been an artist's aspiration. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
On the front, the work adopts a more immediate and cursive style. The guazzetto technique depicts a warm, sun-drenched landscape filled with clear light. The objects are formed by light, transparent layers, which, when overlapping, create a sense of volume and depth, lending a fresh character to the scene.
On the back, the work resembles an engraving. It resembles a true illustration. The composition is rationally arranged according to a rigid orthogonal perspective defined by natural backdrops. Everything is represented with precision, and every tiny detail is captured on the surface of the work.
The two works, on the front and back of the painting, appear to have been created by two different artists. On the front, we see the work of a landscape artist whose rapid brushstrokes lend freshness and immediacy to his paintings. On the back, we see a true engraving, a caption full of fascinating details—in short, a detailed illustration.
