Description of the work
Description of the work
The painting can be defined as a genre scene, that is, the depiction of an episode of everyday life that, apparently, lacks any significant element. These types of domestic subjects were long considered minor and only began to spread in Western art starting in the 17th century. Only with the development of 19th-century realism did everyday subjects become considered as important as historical or religious ones.
Armando Farina's style is highly personal and recognizable. He tends to reconstruct phenomenal reality through a process of redefinition through color. The structure of his canvases, in fact, is not constituted by the drawing, but rather by the depth conveyed by a color that is simultaneously material and evanescent. Through the application of rough surfaces of color, Farina creates an interplay of planes that reconstructs reality almost plastically. The planes intersect, giving rise to a compositional complexity that renders the space conceived by Farina multifaceted.
Armando Farina was born in Posillipo in 1928, but moved to Turin in 1956. He participated in numerous exhibitions both in Italy and abroad and received numerous awards. His training followed the footsteps of the Posillipo School (Pitloo, Gigante, and the Palizzis). Later, especially after moving to Turin, he explored other artistic experiences, ultimately embracing Abstraction and Informalism.
